Motherhood: Respite Or Rebel

Motherhood, a very powerful word which triggers plethora of emotions. The phase when a girl finally transitions into a woman. A woman who bears another soul inside. Therefore, motherhood nutures a woman both physically and emotionally. Post motherhood the life of a woman changes, family here takes primacy and career takes a backseat. Men are usually considered the breadwinners expected to earn for the family while the mother sits at home looks after herself and the child. This is what the society defines as normal and this is what the usual practice is. Post pregnancy many women leave their jobs not because they are not capable enough to handle it but because the society prescribes it as something not very likable. I remember my aunt telling my mother to leave her job and look after herself and me post pregnancy and when my mother refused for the same she started questioning my mother's womanhood. " Kaisi ma ho kam se kam apne bacho par toh dhyan do, kam se kam ghar pe toh raho"  often times I wonder how my mom would have felt after hearing these hurtful words because I would have straightup cried and would have shattered into pieces. But my mom, my biggest source of strength and inspiration is the woman she is, incredible amd strong. Juggling all the pieces of the puzzle , she handles her work and our house like a pro.  She does it all brillantly. She is bold yet soft. A passionate banker and a lovely mother. She might be physically distant but emotionally she has always been there when we need her. I don't know how she does it but what I can vouch for sure that she is indeed a maverick.

Our child and family should further motivate us to grind harder and do well,  culminating to everyone's happiness. My dad has always supported my mother and has never really been insecure of that. He is a man in true sense. This is really what defines the essence of family for me.

This is exactly how I feel the word "modern women" should be perceived. Rebellious but in the right way. Not underplaying your potential because the society prescribes it.  Rebellious yet Respectful.
