This isn’t a poem. It’s frustration. It’s observation and it’s the reality I see around me!
Who needs logic in a country that questions your patriotism—for asking questions?
Who needs logic in a country that gives you freedom of speech—
until you actually use it, and they tear your world apart?
Who needs logic when people worship Goddess Laxmi by daylight—
and rape a girl by midnight?
Who needs logic when the only hope for justice
flickers in candlelight and marches—
while the Supreme Court calls a rapist’s death sentence “too harsh”?
Who needs logic when the youth are called the future—
but during elections, they’re locked in hostels,
miles away from home, unable to vote?
Who needs logic when crores are thrown at IPL stars—
but our medal-winning athletes go home to leaking roofs and empty tables,
struggling to get by everyday?
Who needs logic when a comedian goes to jail—
but a Porsche driver kills two,
writes a 300-page essay, and walks back to college with a clean slate?
Who needs logic when the ones who clear the toughest exams
work under ministers who can’t even sign their names?
Who needs logic when the hands that grow our food can't afford a meal—
buried in debt ends up taking their own life!
Who needs logic in a country where being a woman feels like a crime—
but being raped by your husband isn’t one?
Who needs logic when society delivers its verdict
before the Supreme Court even begins?
Who needs logic when the media digs up a thousand-year-old grave
every time a real issue surfaces—
just to ignite Hindu-Muslim riots?
Who needs logic when you live in India—
a country so colorful,
yet so grey.
