In a deeply distressing and regressive turn of events, a news post dated 19th May 2025 authored by Mr. Yashvir Kadian, a reporter with "Aaj Samaj "newspaper, surfaced an article —one that brazenly undermines the dignity of women and violates the most fundamental principles of ethical journalism and human decency.

The article, riddled with misogynistic undertones, refers to a woman—identified only through her relationship as the wife of an officer—"biwi ne dukan khol rakhi hai", "biwi ki alag hi kahani hai." In an even more appalling instance, another woman, herself an officer, is referred to using the derogatory phrase "Vaishali ki nagar vadhu jo kaiyon ki cheli hai." These characterizations are not just tasteless—they are a blatant assault on a woman’s right to dignity, privacy, and equality.

Such portrayals squarely fall under the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 and are a gross violation of Article 21 of the Constitution of India, which guarantees the right to life with dignity to every individual, regardless of gender.

This is not merely poor journalism—it is a manifestation of a deeply feudal and patriarchal mindset that seeks to reduce women to objects of ridicule, gossip, and insinuation. It reflects a dangerous culture where sensationalism is valued over sensitivity, and where the ethics of journalism are sacrificed at the altar of clicks and circulation.

As a society that continues to grapple with gender biases and systemic inequality, such irresponsible reporting is not just damaging—it is regressive. It invalidates the struggles, contributions, and everyday battles of countless women who strive to be seen beyond their relationships or gender roles. It is a slap in the face of every woman who demands to be respected as a professional, as an individual, and as an equal.
