Empowering Rural Women Through Self-employment in Healthy Food Production

Project Overview

Mr. Krishna Mohan, a dedicated rural development sponsor, has launched this initiative

to empower women in rural villages. The project aims to create sustainable self-employment opportunities, fostering economic independence and entrepreneurship

among women with the help of Nutreat and its unique processing techniques of

handcrafting.

• Intern Involvement: Vijay and Raghavendra, Nutreat interns, act as a bridge

between the sponsor and rural communities, conducting field visits and engaging with

local women.

• Field Work and Engagement: After initial challenges in Mandapalli, the project

successfully identified enthusiastic women in surrounding areas.

Objectives

• Economic Empowerment: Equip rural women with training and resources to

start their own businesses producing Ragi-Almond flour, a healthy and in-demand

product.

• Income Generation: Promote income generation through small-scale food

production.

• Self-Reliance: Foster self-reliance by developing skills, knowledge, and financial

literacy.

• Community Impact: Strengthen the social fabric through collaboration among

women and enhance overall well-being in rural communities.

• Community Meetings and Project Discussion:

Meetings were held to explain the project's goals, Mr. Krishna Mohan's sponsorship,

and Nutreat's training role.

Discussions focused on the importance of economic independence and how self-employment opportunities improve livelihoods.

B. Raw Material Costs per Batch (50Kg Production)

• Ragi (60%): 30 Kg * ₹ 55/Kg = ₹ 1,650

• Almonds (40%): 20 Kg * ₹ 850/Kg = ₹ 17,000

C. Packaging Costs per Batch (50Kg Production)

• Pouches (500g each): (50 Kg / 0.5 Kg/pouch) * ₹ 7/pouch = ₹ 700

Raw Materials (A + B) + Packaging (C) = ₹ 1,650 + ₹ 17,000 + ₹ 700 = ₹ 19,350
